A Mini Biography: Who is Craig Holm?
Quick History
I've been a lover of science fiction for as long as I can remember. I grew up in Huntington, Long Island in the 60s and 70s. I think the first science fiction movie I ever saw was George Pal's War of The Worlds. On TV at the time was Gerry Anderson's classic Super Marionation show Supercar, followed by Fireball XL-5, Stingray, Captain Scarlet and Space 1999 and others.
I think I was around 10 years old when my grandmother, took me to the library to get my first library card. My first library book was one of the Danny Dunn series written by Raymond Abrashkin and Jay Williams. A few years later my grandmother gave me my first “real” science fiction novel, a beat up paperback copy of A Door Into Summer, by Robert Heinlein. That was it. I was hooked. Soon afterwards I discovered Asimov, Arthur C. Clark, Frederik Pohl, Jerry Pournelle and the others.
My all time favorite scifi movie was and still is Forbidden Planet. I've been working on a sequel to the movie for some time. If I can only complete it and get some interest generated in the story, Ann Francis and Leslie Nielsen might still be alive to reprise their original roles as Altera and Commander Adams. Of course, Commander Adams would have climbed through the ranks, reappearing as retired Admiral Adams.
My regular job has provided me with many oportunities to travel overseas. On long flights, you can only read, sleep, eat and drink so much before boredom starts to sink in. I normally travel with a laptop, and so I'd write for my own amusement. After Effect and Surprise From Space are two stories I drafted while flying over the Pacific ocean.
I hope to use my writing and this website as vehicles to spread the word about the things I feel are important today and in the future. With your support I hope to do just that.
